FAQs

Is the sippyMASK medical grade personal protective equipment (PPE)?

No, the sippyMASK is designed for personal use and is not designed or intended for medical use. It is not medical grade PPE or an FDA surgical mask, and in circumstances where medical grade PPE is recommended, you should consult a health care professional. The sippyMASK is not a medical-grade mask and is not intended as a replacement for a medical-grade mask, equipment or other recommended measures to stop the community spread of any virus or disease, including social distancing, washing your hands and refraining from touching your face.

The sippyMASK is not an FDA tested or approved product. The sippyMASK is a face covering. The sippyMASK is not a substitute or replacement for an FDA tested and approved mask. This product makes no claims of antimicrobial protection, antiviral protection, particulate filtration, or infection prevention or reduction. This product is not intended for any medical application including use in a medical setting or health care facility.

Does the sippyMASK comply with CDC guidelines?

Yes, The sippyMASK is compliant with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) guidelines relating to the making of cloth face coverings when the sippyMASK’s adjustable mouth covering is in the closed position. Per the CDC, one should ensure their cloth face covering:

1) fits snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
2) completely covers the nose and mouth
3) is secured with ties or ear loops
4) includes multiple layers of fabric
5) allows for breathing without restriction
6) can be laundered and dried without damage or change to shape

While the sippyMASK is not a surgical mask, an N95 respirator nor medical grade personal protective equipment, the sippyMASK is CDC compliant when the adjustable mouth covering is in the closed position.

When the sippyMASK’s adjustable mouth covering is in the open position allowing the wearer to eat and drink, the mask would not follow the aforementioned CDC guidelines as the mask would not completely cover the mouth. Other face coverings require complete removal of the mask when eating or drinking, in which case other face masks would also not follow CDC guidelines. Importantly, the sippyMASK provides a greater level of protection than alternate face coverings as the sippyMASK does not need to be fully removed in order for the wearer to eat or drink and would continue to cover the nose when the adjustable mouth covering is in the open position; other face coverings need to be fully removed leaving the mouth, nose and full face open to the environment.

NOTE: The CDC does not test, evaluate, or endorse specific consumer products or retailers and does not issue CDC Compliance designations for face coverings.

Is the sippyMASK washable and reusable?

Yes, the sippyMASK is washable (hand wash ONLY) and reusable. To wash, launder masks in hot water using non-scented / allergy free soap or detergent that leaves no residue. Rinse well with fresh water then leave to dry. You may also disinfect masks by soaking them for 5 minutes in a solution of 2 tablespoons of color-safe bleach per quart of water. Discard face coverings that: no longer cover the nose and mouth, have stretched out or damaged ties or straps, cannot stay on the face, or have holes or tears in the fabric.

The sippyMASK should be washed daily and before its first use.
